Director of Music to launch a new CD

Martin Bell our church organist has just released his first ever CD recorded on our magnificent Nicholson pipe organ.

The CD, which includes 8 tracks of well known pieces of music, will give hours of pleasurable listening. The tracks include:

  • March from the Ocasional Oratorio (Handel)
  • Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring ( J S Bach)
  • Nimrod (Elgar)
  • Prelude to the Te Deum (Marc Antoine Charpentier)
  • Adagio (Albinoni)
  • War March of the Priests (Mendelson)
  • The Lost Chord (Arthur Sullivan)
  • Festal Offertorium (Percy Fletcher)

This will be officially launched the night of the Silent Movie Premier at St Catherine's Church, Gorseinon 15TH NOVEMBER At 7pm. Find out more about this event here.

The cost of CD is £5 and allll proceeds will be given to the St Catherine’s organ Development Fund.

 

About Martin Bell

Martin Bell has a life-long association with St Catherine’s Church, Gorseinon and its music; having gone through the ranks as Chorister, Assistant Organist, and Organist and Director of Music.

Martin is the current Director of Music at St Catherine’s, previous to this he was Assistant Organist at St Catherine’s and from 2001 – 2005 Organist at St Josephs RC Cathedral, Swansea.


At the age of 9 years, Martin, as a chorister, showed a keen interest in playing the organ. He initially showed a natural ability, even at this young age, in being able to accompany the choir during their practises and he was guided and encouraged in basic organ technique by former organist and choirmaster, Vivian Thomas.

As he progressed in his studies he became a pupil of Clive Williams, Swansea, and Colin Yeoman, Swansea and he gained Grade 8 with distinction.


In January 2001, Martin, under the direction of Clive Williams, became by examination an Associate in Organ Performance of the National College of Music, ANCM. In June 2002, Martin, became by examination an Associate in Organ Performance of the Victoria College of Music, AVCM, passing with Honours. Martin recently passed the Licentiate Organ Recital Diploma of the Trinity College LTCL. He is currently studying with Gerdi Troskie at the Royal College of Organists St Giles Organ School at Worcester.


Martin is in great demand as provider of music-backing at dinner dances and various functions, cabaret performances ranging as far afield as the Angel Hotel, Cardiff.
